Messi, 33, told the Spanish club Barcelona he wants to end their 20-year association this summer after the 8-2 defeat to Bayern Munich in the Champions League.
The 6 times Balon dor winner, sent a fax to Barca last Tuesday saying he wanted to exercise a clause in his contract which he said allowed him to leave for free.
But the club insisted his €700m (£624m) release clause would have to be met. Messi told Goal,
“It was a very difficult year, I suffered a lot in training, in games and in the dressing room.
“The president always said that at the end of the season I could decide if I wanted to go or if I wanted to stay and in the end, he did not end up keeping his word.
“I will continue at Barcelona and my attitude won’t change, no matter how much I have wanted to go.
“I told the club, the president, that I wanted to go. I’ve been telling him all year.
“I thought my time in Barcelona was over, sadly – I always wanted to finish my career here.”
“I would never go to court against the club of my life. That’s why I’m staying”.
The Argentine confirms that he’ll stay with Barcelona for the final year of his contract.
