Commercial vehicles can resume operations at full capacity, as President Nana Akufo-Addo lifts restrictions on transport activities.

The decision, according to Akufo Addo, was taken after consultations with the Ministers for Transport and Aviation and the leadership of transport unions.

Airplanes, taxis, trotros and buses can resume regular operations, Akufo-Addo said in his 14th televised address to the nation on his administration’s management of the Covid-19 pandemic.

“The wearing of masks in vehicles and aircraft, and the maintenance of enhanced hygiene protocols, remain mandatory,” he stressed.

The commercial vehicle operators were asked to reduce the number of passengers they carry in March after consultations with their unions.

The decision was geared toward ensuring social distancing protocols in public transport in a bid to control the spread of the virus.
