Ghanaian pastor declared WANTED for attempting to set nurse ablaze; dupes her of GH¢40k

The Ghana Police Service’s Asankragua Division is on the trail of Pastor Kenneth Mensah, the head pastor of the Mega Word Chapel International in Enchi, who is accused of attempting to set fire to a woman in Kwasibokro but fleeing with her GH40,000.

According to Divisional Police Commander Chief Superintendent Nana Kumi, who described the incident to Kakyire Obuobi of Ahobraseye FM in Asankragwa, the fugitive pastor was introduced to the victim by her sister’s brother after she returned to Ghana from Dubai to spend the holidays with her family.

“The victim works as a nurse in Dubai and has been there for two years. On October 8, 2021, she returned to Ghana to spend the holidays with her family. Her sister’s brother then introduced her to Pastor Kenneth Mensah, Head Pastor of the Mega Word International Chapel. The victim informed the pastor of her desire to travel once more. During their numerous discussions, the pastor informed her that her home is haunted by evil spirits. As a result, her next journey can only be successful if she undergoes spiritual cleansing.”

Chief Superintendent Nana Kumi continued by saying that Pastor Kenneth Mensah then instructed her to bring the money – GH40,000 – she intended to use to process her travel for cleansing, which she agreed to do.

“The pastor arrived in Asankragwa on January 5, 2022, and stayed at the Royal Hotel. At approximately 2:00 a.m. on January 6, 2022, the pastor went to the victim’s room to perform the aforementioned cleansing. He gathered the money, sealed it in an envelope with cello tape, and instructed her to place it beneath her bed and sleep on it. Prior to that, the pastor, according to the victim, requested that she bring salt and sugar. He instructed the victim to face the window and recite certain words 24 times while he prepared the salt and sugar for her drink.”

“Afterwards, he gave the victim the mixture to drink,” the Asankragwa Divisional Police Commander stated. She immediately felt dizzy and fell asleep after taking it. According to the victim, she began experiencing an unpleasant burning sensation while sleeping and awoke to find her room engulfed in smoke and on fire. She extended her hand to retrieve the envelope containing the money. To her astonishment, the envelope this time contained burnt papers. She screamed for assistance, and her carpenter brother broke down her door and rescued her. Immediately upon her exit, she collapsed and was rushed to the hospital.”

He stated that his division has designated Pastor Kenneth Mensah as a wanted individual.

A teary daughter of the victim, Joana Asare, revealed that the GH¢40,000 was proceeded from the sale of a family store.

“When she came back from Dubai, she discussed with the family her desire to travel to a relative in UK. The family agreed and sold a family store to help her. We had GH¢40,000 from the sale. It is sad what has happened. Thankfully, the fire did not burn her, except that initially she was coughing profusely and her spit was black. But currently she is hale and hearty.”
