Deputy Minister of Defence Major (Rtd) Derrick Oduro, is pointing accusing fingers at the populace for the recent killings of Members of Parliament (MPs) and politicians in general.

His assertion comes on the back of the grim news that was reported yesterday announcing the gruesome murder of the Member of Parliament for Mfantseman, Hon. Ekow Quansah Hayford.

According to him, Ghanaians are not ready to accept the call by MPs for the beefing up of their personal security since they are vulnerable to attacks and robbery.

Speaking and reacting to the death of the Mfantseman MP on Nhyira FM, Major (Rtd) Oduro said Ghanaians refusal for politicians to be protected by the state is the reason they are being killed thus the blame should go to them.

“This is not the first time a Parliamentarian has been attacked and shot dead. It happens all the time in all successive governments. But anytime we raise concerns that the three arms of government need protections as prescribed by the constitution, Ghanaians get angry in regards to the request.”

“They say, why should we offer protection to MPs including the media. You lead the cause and chastise us as if Members of Parliament are aliens as if they are from a far country.

Major Oduro called for the protection of politicians and especially parliamentarians who have become the target of unscrupulous individuals who are bent on terminating their lives out of sheer hate and animosity.
