Ghana is due to record an unprecedented 16,740 unsafe abortions within the next few months due to a lack of access to contraception during the partial lockdown.
This was disclosed by the reputable Reproductive Health NGO, Marie Stopes Ghana yesterday the 24th of April, 2020.
In a news report by TV3, it is estimated that 9,000 unintended pregnancies will be recorded in Accra, Kumasi and Kasoa following the lockdown to contain the rapid spread of the Coronavirus.
According to the report, it will also lead to some 16,740 post lockdown unsafe abortions due to an estimated 26,600 losing access to contraceptive services.
The medical director of the Kumasi South Hospital, Dr. Kwame Buadu who is unsure of the figures encouraged adolescents to be responsible with their sexual lives.
