Estranged head coach of Asante Kotoko, Mariano Barreto keeps talking since failing to deliver for the Porcupine Warriors in the just ended Ghana Premier League and the FA cup.
And in his recent appearance on Kumasi-based Nhyira Fm, Coach Mariano Barreto subtly jabbed management of Asante Kotoko in reference to how they handle their player transfer as a club.
It could be recalled that Asante Kotoko sold their striker Kwame Poku to Algerian side USM Alger midway through the season and immediately announced the signing of Michael Vinicius from Brazil as his replacement.
However, Vinicius failed to deliver scoring only one goal for Kotoko and that didn’t come as a surprise to Coach Barreto at all who knew the player wasn’t as good as Kotoko’s board claim.
Reacting to this that Barreto stated that players from the Ghanaian Premier League are making efforts to secure a move to Europe and it’s the same in Brazil where footballers are aiming of moving to Europe.
So, he was very shocked when the Kotoko board informed him about the arrival of the Brazilian striker because no quality striker will fly all the way from Brazil to come and play in Ghana.
“Players from Ghana want to go to Europe, players from Brazil also want to go to Europe. Mostly for Money, So I was surprised to hear that a top striker from Brazil is coming to replace Kwame Poku at Kotoko. “ he told Nhyira FM sports.
“When they (Kotoko) told me a top Brazilian striker is to replace Kwame Opoku, I was surprised. Because why could a top striker in Brazil come to Ghana?” he added.
