Roman Abramovich held secret investments in footballers not owned by his football club

Investigation has discovered that, Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich held secret investments in footballers not owned by his football club.

The players included the Andre Carrillo (Peruvian), who played for Sporting Lisbon in a 2 leg game against Chelsea in Champions League in 2014.

He had rights in the players through a company based in the British Virgin Islands.

Lord Triesman, Former Football Association chairman has questioned whether it was “right” for the owner of a football club to have an interest in players in other football club.

Triesman told Panorama: “I don’t think it can possibly be proper for the owner of a football club to own players in other football clubs. That is precisely why third-party ownership is banned.”

The practice was banned in the English Premier League in 2008 but was not internationally until 2015.

However, the spokeswoman of Roman Abramovich has stressed no rules or regulations were broken.
