In the entertainment industry, most people don’t really talk about their religious beliefs. While some claims they are Christians, their qualities prove the opposite.

Yet, there are some people who felt the need to rekindle their faith in the Lord, thereby focusing on the Lord’s salvation.

Today, The BBC Ghana present you five popular celebrities who abandoned their fame to focus on spreading the word of God.

  1. Ofori Amposah

Samuel Ofori Amposah, better known by his stage name Mr. All 4 Real, is a Ghanaian musician from Agogo. Started writing music at 13, he was a hot topic in 2006 when he won seven VGMA awards in one night. His genre is Hiplife and Highlife.

The Turning Point:

When Ofori Amposah came out with his decision to venture into gospel music and preaching the word of God, it shocked Ghanaians. At the time, he was one of the biggest musicians in Ghana, and perhaps, Africa. However, in 2015, he revealed his decision to come back to hiplife music again.

  1. Majid Michel

Majid Michel is a Ghanaian actor, born in Cantonments, Accra. He is the son of a Labanese father and a Ghanaian mother. His interest in acting started in Secondary School when he started involving himself in the school’s theatre and drama performance. He is well-known for his appearance in the TV Series ‘Things we do for love’.

The Turning Point:

In 2016, news came out that Majid Michel was a born again Christian. From there, he started advising the youths and preaching the gospel. Majid Michel is still an actor, but he is careful of the roles he chooses to play.

  1. Papa Shee

Papa Shee is a Ghanaian High and Hip-life musician from Ghana based in the US. He is well-known for his intoxicating lyrics and style of songs.

The Turning Point:

Papa Shee confirmed that he was now an evangelist in 2011 after years of not hearing from him. “Even if I will sing or mount a platform to perform again it will be purely gospel,” he revealed.

  1. Lord Kenya

Abraham Philip Akpor Kojo Kenya, better known as Lord Kenya is the son of Nzema father and an Asante mother. He had his SHS education at Anglican Senior High School. His interest in music started at age 17, though his parents wanted him to become a lawyer. He made his first debut album, “Sika Card” in 1998.

The Turning Point:

Later in his music career, he received a divine calling that he couldn’t resist. In 2010, Lord Kenya, known now as an Evangelist claimed that he was touched by the Holy Spirit to do the work of God.

  1. Yaw Siki

Isaac Okai better known by his stage name Yaw Siki rose to fame in 2011 with the hit song, ‘Wupe Dodo’.

The Turning Point:

Yaw Siki had a fatal accident while returning to Tema from Accra and even went into coma for some days. Upon regaining his consciousness, Yaw Siki said that he was saved by the Lord.

After regaining his strength, Yaw Siki embarked on his evangelism mission and to-date, he is still spreading the word of God.
