I’ve been following all the buzz around Micheal Owusu Afriyie who goes by the moniker, Teacher Kwadwo.
I am not only following the proceedings from afar but also supporting him with series of publications at GHbase.Com basically to push for the goodwill of teachers’ condition of service.
Following keenly, I have come to the realization that teachers in Ghana are going through hellfire but are unable to speak for obvious reasons.
As it stands, the task is a herculean one and I am a firm believer that in the end, the ultimate objective would be achieved.
And it takes a teacher who has multiple streams of income to take the bold step taken by Teacher Kwadwo.
In his interview with Kofi Tv, he made it emphatic that a teacher whose livelihood depends on teaching can’t embark on this agenda considering intimidations that mostly come from the camp of GES district directors’.
But the good news is that Teacher Kwadwo doesn’t depend on GES salary for a living, therefore, he stands in the best position to fight this course. Besides, he is famous so no district education director can really intimidate him.
Therefore, all that Teacher Kwadwo needs is utmost support from Ghanaian teachers whose condition of service is poor, but cannot come out to register their displeasure for fear of salary withholding and queries.
The time is now or never for Ghanaians teachers to rally behind teacher Kwadwo to effect the change they need.
I would end here the words of Martin Luther King, Jr. who once postulated that “In the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends.”
Simply put, don’t be silent, teaches, for you’ve been down for too long. The time od now or never.
