The NDC’s Sammy Gyamfi thinks it’s absurd that the current government would propose taxing savings.
According to him, Ghana’s e-levy, or Electronic Transfer Levy, is “wild” and “dumb” in terms of the country’s tax structure.
“Taxing on consumption,” he replied to Johnnie Hughes on TV3’s New Day, when asked about VAT and other taxes on Tuesday, February 1. Taxes on savings were offered as examples by him, including the VAT and other levies.
That’s why “e-levy is not a tax,” he concluded. As a kind of theft, “it’s illegal.”
