The coronavirus pandemic seemingly turns scary in Ghana as the number of positive cases surge.
Across the length and breadth of the country, a number close to seventeen thousand Ghanaians have been infected with the novel coronavirus and over one hundred of the number have died according to the Ghana Health Service Statics.
The virus that does not segregate or give respect to one’s personality, profile, status, and rank has infected many Ghanaians has also attacked some important personalities in Ghana. Most of these personalities are political leaders, appointed to serve in various offices by the President, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo.
On a very sad note, two of these appointees have died out of the novel coronavirus pandemic in Ghana.
The name includes Mayor for Sekondi Takoradi Mr Antony Kobina Kuront Sir Sam and Lawyer Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie a.k,a Sir john.
There are, however, others, including ministers of state who are currently on admission receiving treatments.
This article seeks to single out appointees of Akuffo Addo who have contracted the virus. It also captures those who could not survive the virus.
Papa Owusu Ankomah – Ghana High Commissioner to UK
Sixty-one-year-old Ghana’s High commissioner to the United Kingdom Papa Owusu Ankoma in April this year contracted the coronavirus in the United Kingdom. His condition became severe and was placed on a ventilator at the intensive care unit of the Royal Hospital. There were reports that his wife also contracted the coronavirus. Fortunately for Papa Owusu Ankoma, his system was able to fight the virus. He later recovered and went back to his post. Papa Owusu Ankoma was appointed to serve Ghanaians in the UK by Nana Akufo Addo.
Board Chairman of the Ghana Ports and Harbors Authority who doubles as the campaign manager for the ruling New Patriotic Party Mr. Peter Mac Manu has also tested Positive of Coronavirus. Information indicates Mr. Peter Mac Manu, is currently at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, receiving treatment.
Ghana’s Health Minister, Kwaku Agyemang Manu was diagnosed of coronavirus some weeks ago. He is reported to be on admission at the University of Ghana Medical Center where he is receiving treatment. Reports are that the sixty-four-year-old Dormaa Central Member of Parliament is responding to treatment and will soon recover from the virus.
The next appointee in the Akuffo Addo Administration who has tested positive for coronavirus is the chief executive officer (CEO) of the National Health Insurance Authority, (NIA) Dr. Lydia Dsane Selby. We are told, Dr. Selby is also in isolation and has been responding to treatment.
Ghana’s Education Minister, Dr Mathew Opoku Prempeh has also been reported of contracting the coronavirus. Further, reports indicate, Dr Mathew Opoku Prempeh is on admission at the University of Ghana Medical Center where he is currently receiving treatment.
Another government appointee who is currently battling with the coronavirus infection is the Minister for Regional Reorganization and Development. Mr. Daniel Kwaku Botwe. He is reported to have contracted the virus and has been on admission at the University of Ghana medical center on same day with Dr Mathew Opoku Prempeh on June 24, 2020.
Mr. Carlos Ahinkorah
Deputy Minister for trade and industry, Mr Carlos Ahinkorah has also contracted the corovirus. He is currently on admission at the Intensive Care Unit of the Korle Bu teaching hospital in Ghana. We are told he is responding to treatment.
There are however, other Appointees who have died from the coronavirus and they include, Mr. Kwodwo Owusu Afriyie and the Mayor for Sekondi Takoradi Mr. Antony Kobina Kurontsir Sam.
The death of Sir John which was announced Wednesday night has shaken the political front of the nation. Everybody in the country seems shocked by the death of Sir John.
Several tributes have poured in from all political leaders in the country. Until his death, he was appointed Chief Executive Officer for the Forestry Commission by Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo.
