According to Minister of Communications and Digitalization Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, Ghana cannot continue to borrow or beg for money to fund its expansion.

Consequently, she says that the only option to boost revenue is to collect the 1.75 percent E-tax on financial transactions.

During a government town hall meeting in Koforidua, Eastern Region, she said that the E-levy will provide Ghana with the much-needed finances to carry out its numerous development projects.

We must either produce our own money or borrow, and we can’t keep borrowing to maintain our growth.

“We must all support the e-levy and contribute to national growth in order to attain Ghana beyond help,” she said.

As Ursula Owusu-Ekuful warned, if Ghana continues to rely on foreign aid, it would lose its ability to govern itself.

Her prediction was that as long as we were dependent on outside donors, we would develop at a slow and steady pace.
