George Akuffo Dampare, Ghana’s incumbent IGP, has been applauded by social media users following the way he is handling cases in the country.
Despite the huge applause he has received from netizens, some have asked him to arrest politicians Kennedy Ohene Agyapong and Hawa Koomson just to prove the fact that he is not being controlled by the President.
On Monday, July 20, 2020, during the voters’ registration exercise, Hawa Koomson fired a gun at a polling station during a scuffle between herself and her NDC opponent, Phyllis Naa Koryoo Okunor.
Subsequently in an interview with Adom FM, the Awutu Senya East MP admitted to firing the shots with claims that the move was to protect her life. She was not detained or questioned, and she continues to go around freely.
Kennedy Agypong, on the other hand, has a history of threatening people on live television and disrespecting judges, including former President John Mahama.
These two people have been walking freely as if nothing had ever happened, but Medikal who just posted a gun was picked up by the police for that and is currently behind bars serving 5 days behind bars.
So, it’s at the back of the selective arrest that netizens especially the critical thinking ones believe that as a matter of fair justice, the two politicians also need to be picked up and used as scapegoats for the others.
