Ghana Black Stars striker, Benjamin Tetteh was shown a red card by Algerian official, Lahlou Benbraham after swinging a punch at a Gabon player in the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2021

The incident ensued after drawing the game with Gabon on Friday evening which became a damaging result for the Black Stars in their move to make it to the knockout stage.

After Gabon’s Jim Allevinah scored to equalize in the 88th minute a visible frustration set in on the Ghana bench and it later spilled out onto the pitch after the official, Benbraham blew the whistle for full time.

As the players agued each other Benjamin Tetteh, 24 year old who came up from substitution swung a punch at Gabon’s Aaron Boupendza.

As Tetteh saw the referees checking out who was the offender he swiftly ran down the tunnel of the pitch

After the referee was informed of the culprit, he refused to leave the pitch despite blowing the whistle as he told Thomas Partey and other Ghanaian players to fish him out.

All this while Tetteh didn’t show himself but eventually, the referee gestured that the red card had been shown to No 25 which is Tetteh’s number.
