Sellers of sachet and bottled water have been enraged by consumers’ refusal to accept the new mineral water prices.
Following a direction from the National Association of Sachet and Packaged Water Producers, hawkers have complained about the recent increase in sachet and bottled water prices (NASPAWAP).
The Association’s National President, Magnus Nunoo, issued a press statement last week stating that sachets of water, which were previously sold at 20 pesewas, will now be sold for 40 pesewas, and 500ml bottled water, which was previously sold for 1.00 pesewas, will now be sold for GH1.50p.
According to the report, several traders have expressed concern that customers are refusing to accept the new pricing. “With the previous pricing, I make just GHc3 profit, which is really bad,” one vendor explained, “therefore the new prices boost my profit to some amount.”
“The only issue is that when we tell them about the new prices, they don’t agree.” I did not make the decision to raise the prices on my own. I’m pleading with everyone to accept the rates because they’ve been announced.”
Consumers, on the other hand, have been urged to embrace the new prices and buy more like they used to.
