When it came time to vote on the Electronic Transactions Bill, more commonly known as E-levy, in Parliament late last month, members of both parties traded blows.

In spite of the Minority’s steadfast opposition, the Government recently stated that the Bill would be re-filed in the House.

Parliament has formally approved the E-levy, according to Majority Leader and Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu.

His reasoning is based on the fact that the E-levy is included in the government’s 2022 budget and economic policy, as well as the Appropriation Bill, which has been passed by Parliament.

E-Levy passed on all three levels. This is due to the fact that it was included in the budget. In an interview with a privately-owned newspaper, Daily Guide, he indicated that the budget and the E-Levy were both supported by his administration.

For this year’s appropriation estimates, the MP for Suame said, the government must have enough money to carry out its objectives and programs because of the E-predicted levy’s revenue.

It was only after the E-Levy receivables were allocated to various sectors that the Appropriations Act was passed that he said, “I find it incredibly difficult for somebody to argue, having done or taken these three steps, that I am now tracing my steps back in order to declare that I cannot support it.”

Because the budget has already been authorized, “we will have to find a way around it,” he said.

Even though they first opposed it, the Minority MPs have changed their stance, he pointed out, adding that these same MPs had been involved in the approval of two legislation including E-levy into them.

“It’s something that needs to be taken into account. I believe that the House of Representatives must approve it. The Appropriations Bill, which encompasses all revenue and expenditure allocations, was unanimously accepted and passed by the House after you (the Minority) agreed and authorized them at that level by voting for them. That was completed.

There are still legal ways to introduce the E-Levy Bill, which was included in the budget that has been authorized because the E-Levy hasn’t yet been established.

Anyone who claims that I don’t want to approve of the law is simply wrong.” “That’s the problem,” he continued.
