The youngest VGMA Artiste of the Year alive, Kuami Eugene, has expressed his disappointment in Sarkodie and Diana Hamilton for failing to congratulate him on his award.
Speaking in an interview on TV3 New Day monitored by The BBC Ghana, Kuami Eugene said three days after winning, the two contenders (Sarkodie and Diana Antwi Hamilton) had not called him.
It is the norm for competitors of a category to call the ultimate winner after an award show, and so, Kuami Eugene might have been expecting to hear from his senior colleagues, but that has not happened.
He sounded a bit emotional while speaking via Zoom with MzGee on the show. Kuami Eugene, however, acknowledged Kofi Kinaata as the only competitor who called to congratulate him.
“I have not heard from Sarkodie, and not from Diana Hamilton, but Kofi Kinaata called me. Keche, Medikal, and others also called,” a disappointed Kuami Eugene said.
He rejected comments that he did not deserve that ultimate award saying that he has worked hard under the year of review and deserved every bit of it.
Kuami Eugene noted that he released two big songs – Ohemaa and Obiato – which were major hit songs across Africa, as well as organising top shows.
“I released just two songs but they were all over Africa. I organised the Rockstar Concert, Salafest in Fadama, and many more. I worked hard and I deserved it,” Kuami Eugene said firmly.
He added that he is not perturbed by the cutting remarks about he not deserving the award because people are entitled to their own opinions.
