JUST IN: Fire guts EC office just a week after voters’ registration exercise

The Greater Accra Regional Office of the Electoral Commission (EC) located at Sapeiman near Amasaman has been gutted by fire.

Per checks made by The BBC Ghana, the fire started at about 2:30 am on Friday, August 14, 2020.

The fire service got to the scene and took them about four fire tenders from Amasaman, Kotoku, Nsawam and Abelemkpe to douse the fire.

According to the Ghana Police Service, the affected building is used for the storage of old and used items for the Commission. The cause of the fire is not immediately known. There was no casualty.

Police officers from the Greater Accra Regional Division were at the scene of the fire to provide security for the fire officers.
