Van de Beek is set to sign a five-year deal. That should allow him to be available for United’s opening game of the 2020-21 season, against Crystal Palace on 19 September.

The Ajax Academy product Van de Beek has spent five seasons in Ajax’s first team, accruing close to 200 appearances in all competitions for the Amsterdam outfit.

Van de Beek was one of the key performers for Ajax as they embarked upon a terrific run to the semi-finals of the 2018-2019 Champions League.

The Dutchman has emerged as United’s likely first summer signing as it appears a deal is almost done, with talks continuing between the 2 clubs. However, the BBC reports an agreement worth €45m has now been reached.

Chief executive of Ajax, Edwin van der Sar has also confirmed Van de Beek will be allowed to leave Amsterdam this summer. But he insisted in June that it would not be in a cut-price deal.

Historically, Donny van de Beek is a Dutch professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for Eredivisie club AFC Ajax. Born in Nijkerkerveen, Van de Beek joined the Ajax academy in 2008.

In 2015, he made his competitive debut for the club in a Europa League match against Scottish club Celtic.
