The truth is, comparing and contrasting the works of Esther Nyamekye, Getty & Friends, Mama Esther, Tagoe Sisters, Helena Rhabbles, et al. to the songs produced by our current crop of musicians who call themselves gospel musicians will make you shed uncontrollable tears.
Listening to the works of Getty & Friends, Helena Rhabbles, others will make every believer suffer from goosebumps but these days, the songs produced as gospel songs are nothing but empty – it carries no inspiration and religious weight.
Gospel artists Joyce Blessing has said that she sees herself primarily as a businesswoman, despite her involvement in spreading God’s message via her music.
Joyce was asked this same question by Rainbow Radio presenter Togo Borga: “Are you performing gospel music as a business, or simply spreading the message of God?” The “Agyebum” singer responded with:
“To me, my job is both a business and a ministry. It is a business straight but I minister the word of God through it. Gospel is a business!”
The gospel singer in question recently informed the people of Ghana that, for reasons known only to herself, she would not be including any gospel artists on her next album.
