Finance Minister Ken Ofori Atta has hit back at the Minority in Parliament after they criticized him for reading a manifesto to parliament instead of a budget.

Ken Ofori Atta on Thursday read the mid-year budget review in Parliament underscoring government’s efforts amidst the Covid-19 pandemic.

In a rebuttal, the Minority described the budget as a document filled with manifesto promises.

Member of Parliament for Ajumako Enyan Essiam, Cassiel Ato Forson said, “the mid-year budget review is not for manifestos. It is for him to review the existing budgets, not for him to come and read to us a new budget, what he has done actually means that he has introduced manifesto promises into the official document.”

Reacting to this, Ken Ofori Atta told Kwami Sefa Kayi on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo show that “It’s not time for politics when lives are at stake.”

“Put yourself in the shoes of government and imagine what you would do. it’s hard work; we are not resting on our loins…it’s not normal times,” he told the Minority.

He added, “we’ve managed the economy well and this has been appreciated by a lot of people…we are dealing with known unknowns; the situation we are dealing with is unprecedented…so we can’t just get up and say anything we like.”
