The Majority leader and leader of government business in Parliament, Honourable Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu has said it will not be a wise move for the NPP to present another Akan as flagbearer after President Akufo-Addo.
Mr Mensah Bonsu made this assertion when he was speaking on JoyNews’ ‘The Probe’.
According to him, since the NPP has been tagged over the years as an Akan party, it will be prudent for the party to take strategic measures to disprove that notion.
With lobbying for 2024 already in subtle swing, the NPP race is heating up, with Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia and Minister for Trade, Alan Kyerematen leading the charge.
However, many have said that despite the popularity of Dr Bawumia, he is unlikely to lead the NPP considering the fact that majority of the Party’s delegates are Akan.
However, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu believes it is time for a non-Akan to lead the NPP, though he refused to stick his neck out for Dr Bawumia.
The majority leader said it is too early and that he will stick his neck out when the time is right.
