The majority caucus in Parliament no longer depends on Dome-Kwabenya MP Sarah Adwoa Safo, according to First Deputy Speaker Joseph Osei-Owusu (Joewise).
The majority, he says, has adopted this attitude since attempts to send her back home have failed.
In a statement, MP Dome-Kwabenya begged the majority caucus not to contact her again.
“Our strategy is that if you go to rescue a kidnapped person and she is alive, it is God’s favor and it adds to your profits. So we don’t consider her as part of us anymore “stated
According to the Deputy Speaker, Joseph Osei-Owusu, the Majority Leader used to contact her often, but she begged him not to call again.
Sarah Adwao Safo, the NPP’s MP for Dome Kwabenya, has been missing since December 2020, prompting demands for her seat to be declared empty, allowing for a by-election to replace her.
Members of the New Patriotic Party accuse Sarah Adwoa Safo of purposefully obstructing government work by absenting herself from Parliament and her position as Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection.
Many of her supporters argue that her absence from Parliament during that time period satisfies Article 97 (c), which states that an MP must vacate their seat “if he/she is absent without the permission in writing of the Speaker and is unable to offer a reasonable explanation to the Parliamentary Committee on Privileges from fifteen sittings of a meeting of Parliament during any period Parliament has been summoned to meet and continues to do so.”
