Former Sanitation and Water Resources Minister Cecilia Abena Dapaah has been defended by Mr. Logic from accusations of theft.
Mr. Logic criticised Ghanaians for prematurely branding the former minister a thief, contending that the nation’s poverty-stricken mentality had a tendency to mistake luxury and money for illicit profits.
Insisting that it is unfair to accuse someone of being a thief in the absence of solid proof, he pleaded with the public to refrain from jumping to conclusions about the origin and use of the supposed money.
“If someone wants to save his or her money at home, whether the money is for a project or family money or something, you don’t know, then all of a sudden, all of you are tagging her as a thief,” he said.
Mr Logic also argued that the former minister’s decision to step down from her position voluntarily for investigations should be seen as a sign of honesty and integrity.
“The woman is not a thief, it is her own money that people have stolen and she wanted to be honest because she is a public official so she has stepped down for investigations,” he said.
On July 22, the former minister announced her resignation, saying she did not want the government to be burdened by her personal matters. Her resignation has been accepted by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
Mr. Logic’s defense of the former minister comes as public anger over the matter is intensifying. Many Ghanaians are urging the government to intervene in order to look into the claims and prosecute the offenders.
