The Ministry of Health has stated that Sheikh Ahmed Dalmook Al Maktoum has agreed to refund an amount of $2,470,000 paid by the Republic of Ghana for the supply of 300,000 doses of Sputnik Covid-19 vaccines.
“The Private Officer of His Highness, per the correspondence has honourably agreed to refund an amount of two million four hundred and seventy thousand dollars (US$2,470,000.00) being the balance left on the 50% advance payment of two million eight hundred and fifty thousand United States Dollars (US$2,850,000.00),” portions of the Health Ministry’s letter to the Finance Ministry read.
This comes after the Health Minister, Kwaku Agyeman-Manu wrote to the Sheikh demanding for a refund after Sheikh Al Maktoum delivered only 20,000 doses of Sputnik vaccines out of the expected 300,000 doses.
“By this letter, I also wish to formally request for the refund of the remaining amount for the non-supplied doses, which should be the total amount paid to your office, minus the amount due for the 20,000 doses you already supplied, in line with your earlier e-mail dated 25th July 2021, in which it was affirmed that on the 13th April, 2021, funds were transferred into your accounts as fifty per cent (50%) advance for the initial batch of 300,000 doses,” part of Mr. Agyeman-Manu’s letter read.
The Minister had earlier denied that no money was paid per an agreement between Ghana and the Sheikh.
Reacting to it, Manasseh wondered why President Akufo-Addo continues to watch on while his health minister lies to the whole country.
“The Health Minister who said no money was paid to the Sheikh is now writing to the Sheikh for a refund. And Akufo-Addo is watching. #AgyemanManuMustGo”.
