Three communities in the Sisala West District of the Upper West Region have received safe delivery beds.
The communities are Dasimah, Duwie and Fialmuah. These communities were without safe delivery beds in the ChPS Compounds but now all have one.
The provision of the beds was made possible by the Member of Parliament for the Sisala West Constituency, Mohammed Adams Sukparu.
Pregnant women in these communities are said to be risking their lives when in labour. At the Duwie community, where one of the CHPS compound is located, a source told 3news.com that “There was a time that relatives rushed a pregnant woman here but the beds were inadequate so I spread a mat on the floor so she could deliver but over time, the situation has improved”.
Delivering the items, the MP for the area Adams Sukparu said, “Thanks to our commitment to ensure improved maternity care. I’m glad to have made this timely intervention. Our pregnant women can now deliver their babies with less risk”.
He also donated a blood bank to the Gwollu District Hospital. According to the MP, The Gwollu District Hospital reached out to me with concerns about their inability to preserve blood due to limited blood bank refrigerators available to them. I’m glad to announce that I have fixed that problem. I also donated wheelchairs, test tubes and other laboratory equipment which were in dire need at the hospital. The quest for a better Sissala West is on and I’m glad to have the support of our people in achieving it”. He stated.
In August last year, the MP made a similar donation comprising 100 bags of cement to Fatchu community to enable them construct a maternity unit at the Fatchu CHPS compound.
