Former PNC General Secretary Bernard Mornah has urged the government to poll the public on the E-levy.
He added Akufo-government Addo’s officials’ claims that Ghanaians desire to pay the fee should be put to a vote.
Mr. Monarh told Accra-based TV3 that only a referendum can tell the government whether it is popular.
Some government officials claim only NDC members oppose the tax, but Ghanaians in general favor it.
“Given the level of disagreement, maybe the president should make this a referendum policy and see how it goes.”
“If the president feels this e-levy is popular, he should put it to a vote. Is that it? ” On 3FM’s Sunrise program with Alfred Ocansey on February 8th.
Kwesi Ofori-Atta, Minister of Rods and Highways, has urged on contractors to embrace the e-levy.
If the e-levy passes, the government will be able to pay some of their arrears.
