The E-Levy Is Opposed By Ghanaians Because They Don’t Travel – Diana Asamoah
Popular gospel artist, Evangelist Diana Asamoah has endorsed the Akufo-Addo-led government’s contentious E-Levy proposal says, Ghanaians opposing it because they don’t travel.
After Finance Minister Ken Ofori Atta first mentioned the E-Levy on the floor of parliament while reading the 2022 budget, many Ghanaians and pressure groups opposed its adoption. There has even been a debate about it in Parliament.
Ms. Diana Asamoah said taxes play an important role in a country’s development
“If you go to Italy, the toll is automated. You will not see anyone there collecting tolls but you are compelled to pay. You pay €10 on your going and same on your coming. Everything is taxed,” she said.
According to her, Ghanaians ought to travel in order to be exposed to how the system operates elsewhere.
“In Ghana, it is because some people have not traveled before that is why they speak like that [against paying taxes]. If we were to explain the objective and the need to pay the E-Levy, it would bring massive developments. Ghana would have been so beautiful,” she added.
