The journey to achieving another milestone in the sanitation sector of the Volta Region as part of a national agenda under the able leadership of H.E the President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo began yesterday with the sod cutting for the construction of an Integrated Waste Recycling and Compost Plant at Akrofu Xeviwofe in the Ho Municipality.
The plant is being constructed in the 16 regions of the country.
In the Volta Region, the siting of the plant at Akrofu Xeviwofe comes with other accompanying benefits of social amenities such as good roads, potable water, and the extension of electricity.
It would also contribute immensely to the creation of jobs in the area.
Upon completion, the plant would contribute significantly to solid waste management in the Ho Municipality, Agortime Ziope District, Adaklu District, South Dayi District, Kpando Municipality and North Dayi District among others.
Furthermore, the completion of the construction of the plant shall lead to the production of organic compost for horticultural and agronomical purposes as an added advantage to boost agricultural production and the government’s flagship programme of Planting for Food and Jobs.
The Volta Regional Minister, Dr. Letsa Archibald was honoured and privileged to have performed the sod-cutting on behalf of H.E the President at a spectacular event hosted by the Traditional Authority and People of Akrofu.
Construction of the plant is being done by the Jospong Group of Companies and Partners. He said;
“I must state unequivocally that this is a new project and initiative of government under the leadership of H.E Nana Akufo-Addo. The project is different from the Engineered Landfill Site of the Ho Municipal Assembly.
At the ceremony, I seized the opportunity to entreat the gathering especially the people of Akrofu, Ho, and the beneficiary Municipality and Districts to give four more years to H.E. Nana Akufo-Addo come 7th December to do more for us in sustaining the gains made in the sanitation and water sector during his first four years in office.
I am grateful to Madam Gloria Anti, the Deputy Managing Director of Zoomlion Ghana Ltd who represented the Executive Chairman of the Jospong Group of Companies at the event.
I am equally grateful to Mr. Joseph Obeng Poku, Director I at the Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources for ably representing the sector Minister.
My gratitude also goes unreservedly to Mamaga Nyabor VII, Queen Mother of Akrofu Traditional Area and the Elders.
I also wish to appreciate the representatives of the Volta Region House of Chiefs, Togbega Gbogbolulu V, Paramount Chief of Vakpo Traditional Area; and Togbega Gbogbi Atsa V, Paramount Chief of Adaklu Traditional Area for gracing the occasion.”
Indeed, “Leadership of Service; Protecting Our Progress, Transforming Ghana for All” is in motion and the Volta Region is never left out.
