Not long ago, Ghana Education Service (GES) instructed authorities of the Achimota School to admit the two first-year students who reported on campus with dreadlocks.
This follows a massive debate on social media after reports that the school had refused to admit the children although they gained admission.
But in a new development, GES has made a U-turn and now supports Achimota not to admit the students with dreadlocks according to Blakk Rasta on Zylofon Fm.
According to Blakk Rasta, they had a meeting with the parents of the Rastafarian students and Achimota school authorities. And GES told the parents that they have to abide by the rules of Achimota.
“There was a meeting today at GES office between the parents of the students and the headmistress of Achimota and after the meeting, they told the parents to cut off the dreadlocks of their wards before they will be admitted.”
“But for these children, Rastafari is their region and their dreadlock symbolizes that and I don’t know they will discriminate because of their region,” he added.
