President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari has imposed a nation-wide lockdown on Nigeria as the government grapples with a surge in the cases of coronavirus increases.
Formerly Lagos and Ogun state together with the capital, Abuja was under that condition.
In a televised announcement, the president mentioned that the measure which is in the form of a curfew comes into force on 4th May. It will only be between 8 pm to 6 pm. Thus economic activities will take place during the day to ensure the country does not fall into a recession.
Many citizens have hailed the new directives which also called for mandatory face masks and a prohibition of inter-state movement.
Nigeria has over the past few days seen an increase in the pandemic cases with 1,042 recorded cases and 40 deaths which includes Buhari’s chief of staff.
