Some companies have begun refusing payments ahead of the contentious Electronic Levy (E-levy) on transfers, including the popular Mobile Money (MoMo).
Some of these companies have posted signs at their entrances notifying customers that they no longer accept Mobile Money payments.
This is a response to the projected E-levy fee of 1.75 % on all transfers.
This year’s E-levy will be passed by the Vice President, Finance Minister, Communications Minister, and President.
Due to this and the fear of the new tax, companies have shunned Mobile Money payment services, opting to only accept conventional payment methods.
