The Deputy Executive Director of the National Service Scheme (NSS) said the National Service Secretariat wants to alter National Service Personnel’s stipend.

Gifty Oware-Mensah said in an interview on JoyNews’ The Pulse on Wednesday that the new stipend would exceed what Service employees had suggested.

She said these ideas were submitted to the Parliament Education Committee.

Madam Oware-Mensah didn’t specify the payment amount. NSPs earn GH559.04 every month.

“Unfortunately, all we can tell is that it will cost more than GH800,” she stated. The Coalition of Suffering National Service Personnel protested in Accra on Monday.

We aim to enhance NSS allowance above 800 – Gifty Oware-Mensah The group demanded their three months’ back pay.

The delay in their allowance payment is creating financial difficulty, they say, owing to price spikes.

The National Service Scheme’s Deputy Executive Director denied owing certain NSPs three months of back pay.

According to her, the Service has paid 67,000 people as of April 2022; only those who haven’t filed monthly assessment forms remain unpaid.

Gifty Oware-Mensah promised to fast-track payment for late-submitting staff.
