Professor Raymond Atuguba, Dean of the University of Ghana School of Law, says the E-levy is the only solution to salvage Ghana’s economy in the near term.
“The first step is to pass and implement the E-levy immediately. We must pass it to avoid economic catastrophe and a return to IMF dominance…. The only option to salvage our economy in the near future, he declared during a Solidare Ghana event on Monday, February 28, 2028.
In order to approve the E-tax, government must stop lying to the public, admit that they believed managing the economy was easy but now know otherwise, and plead with Ghanaians that we have limited alternatives today, said former President Mahama’s executive secretary.
Parliament’s Majority Leader, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, is certain the E-levy will be passed. He said NPP legislators are touring the nation to convey the idea to Ghanaians.
“You will see the Finance Minister organizing townhall meetings in several regional capitals,” Suame remarked in an exclusive interview with TV3’s Benjamin Aidoo.
I think we overestimated it.” Because we are introducing a new levy or tax, we expected some pushback, but we may have overestimated the intensity of the resistance.
The E-levy should have been introduced before what we are doing now, I know some of my colleagues are out in different areas and seats trying to explain things to their residents. Maybe next time we’ll be better.
“But, as I said, we are still engaged and I am certain we will succeed.”
