Flight-Lt Jerry John Rawlings coming back to into office after his successful coup d’état of 31st December 1981 came with two main objectives.

The first objective was the restoration of power to the people and pursue a ‘Holy War’ against corruption in Ghana.

To see these objectives come to past, Jerry John Rawlings ‘Junior Jesus’ suspended the constitution of the country thereby making him a tyrant ruler since he instituted an unconstitutional rule.

One could ask me why would he suspend the constitution? Rawlings did that so that he couldn’t be charged for any crime that will be committed.

To make matters worse, Jerry John Rawlings further banned all political parties and detained party officials. PC Appiah Minkah, the late Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie a.k.a Sir John among others flee from the country to seek asylum elsewhere.

His first public speech saw an announcement dubbed ” What will be justice in this country will be a justice of the people” – this was in his second coming.

It could be recalled that his first coup attempt against General Fred Akuffo in May 1979 failed as he was arrested and convicted with his six (6) colleagues he planned it with.

Moreover, a little more than a year after Hilla Limann was elected, Jerry John Rawlings attempted a second coup d’etat on 31st December 1981 as I have already said and this time Jerry was successful in his attempt.

His reason for overthrowing the Limann led administration was that the Limman led government was corrupt and ineffectively managed. He then installed himself as Chairman, and later as President of Ghana.

Were people arrested and convicted? Yes! Jerry John Rawlings arrested and convicted. Many were arrested under his administration.

Not to take you afar, let’s take the 2000 John Agyekum Kuffour led administration as an example. Seasoned lawyers like Tsatsu Tsikata among many others were arrested for causing financial loss to the state.

Security Minister who was under Jerry John Rawlings administration Francis Poku went under house arrest under John Agyekum Kufour. The government later came to deny these allegations.

John Dramani Mahama’s first tenure as president after succeeding in an election after the demise of President John Evans Attah Mills.

Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, was among many others too who were tormented and arrested for all the good, the bad, and the ugly reasons.

Montie 3, after President Akufo Addo’ s victory, is also a clear example of how people are likely to be arrested and convicted when new governments assume power.

With the current situation, John Dramani Mahama second coming if only made possible will see people like Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, Kwame Baffoe ak.a Abronye DC and lastly President Akufo Addo.

  1. Kennedy Ohene Agyapong

Kennedy Ohene Agyapong who remains the Member of Parliament for Assin Central Constituency have tormented some section of the NDC and it wouldn’t be a surprise if they intend to pay him back with same.

2. Abronye DC

Abronye DC, on the other hand, has accused former President John Dramani Mahama of having a hand in the unfortunate demise of the late President Mills when John Mahama was his vice.

3. President AKufo Addo

Just recently, Communications Officer of the opposition, NDC who is in the person of Sammy Gyamfi has posited that the NDC has gathered enough evidence to prosecute President AKufo Addo for all his wrongdoing.

4. Kweku Annan

Kweku Annan, the host of The Heat Show on Net2TV, will certainly join Kennedy Agyapong in prison for exposing NDC pastors in recent times specifically Prophet Emmanuel Badu Kobi, Prophet Nigel Gaisei, Et Al.
