One of the vehicles involved in the accident, a gas tanker with registration number GN 4513-21, was fully loaded with LPG and was travelling south on the highway.
It happened on Thursday dawn.
A team of firefighters is still on the site, controlling the situation while they wait for the arrival of another Gas Tanker Truck, which will transport the gas.
Motorists on the highway were asked to use caution when passing through the tunnel.
