President Akufo-Addo Announces Two More Weeks Ban On Public Gatherings

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has extended the ban on public gathering including religious activities and funerals by an additional two weeks.

Speaking at his 8th state of the nation address on the novel coronavirus in the country, the president announced that all public gatherings are still banned till further notice. The ban takes effect on 27th March 2020 at 1:00 am prompt.

According to the president, the decision to extend the ban was made after major stakeholders came to a consensus.

He said:

“The strong consensus…is that the existing measures must be maintained for now until we have a firm grip on the spread of the virus. The consensus is supported by data and science and I am also very much of this view…I have by executive instrument extended by two weeks the ban on public gatherings effective tomorrow, Monday, 1:00 am, April 27, 2020,”
