Richard Nii Armah, the Executive Secretary of the Progressive People’s Party(PPP) has called on the Electoral Commission(EC) to request for the mental certificate of presidential aspirants before giving them the nod to.
He said individuals who want to stand for the presidential slot should have their mental status checked before the EC gives them the opportunity to contest.
He said it was imperative for presidential aspirants to visit psychiatric hospitals for a mental check since the laws state that, aspirants must be persons with a sound mind.
Therefore, since EC was not a mental hospital to determine the mental status of the aspirants which is necessary, it was important that it demanded a mental certificate from presidential aspirants before allowing them to contest.
“I personally believe that before anyone can contest in the presidential race, the person has to be sent to Pantang or any Psychiatric hospital to determine his or her mental status in meeting the demand of the 1992 constitution of who becomes president of Ghana.” he said.
