General Secretary for the University of Ghana Chapter of the University Teachers Association (UTAG) Prof. Ransford Gyampo has asked the leadership of UTAG to desist from attending unproductive meetings.
According to him, UTAG cannot be as a tool to make it look like some people are working when in actual sense they are not working.
Prof Gyampo has advised that UTAG leadership should look at attending only meetings that it is sure of fruitful outcomes and Government’s commitment.
He reiterated his calls that University teachers want cash and not fruitless meetings.
Prof. Gyampo’s post shared on social media said “UTAG, we must only honor meetings that are productive. Others cannot use us to create the impression as if they are working by calling us to meetings. Meetings that cannot commit government to honor its obligations towards us in improving our Conditions of Service are inconsequential. We need cash, we don’t need meetings”.
UTAG has been on strike since January 10, 2022 and has said that it does not intend going back to the classroom until government provides them with better conditions of service.
Last week, UTAG met with the National Labour Commission (NLC) for a meeting on their strike but the meeting did not provide any headway as the NLC declared the strike action as illegal.
