Ex-sports reporter Kwabena Agyapong thinks it’s improper for the Ghanaian sports media to focus so much on sports coverage from outside the country.
On Kessben TV, Kwabena Agyapong complained about how much coverage of international sports takes away from coverage of local games.
According to the former press secretary of the deposed president Kuffour, the media has given local sports, and Ghana football, in particular, very little attention.
Despite the media’s inability to eliminate international sports due to their profitable structure, Kwabena Agyapong said that it is the media’s responsibility to promote the local game so that it can attract a large audience.
During the tail end of his broadcast, he said that back when he was a sports writer in Ghana, he was responsible for introducing foreign sports to local audiences.
“When you go to the UK and others, you won’t hear them talking about the Ghana premier league. They spend a good time talking about theirs but in Ghana what do you see? We spend so much time on foreign news and it is wrong to start the sports shows in Ghana with foreign news. I introduced foreign football on my show years ago but that was at the latter part of the show” He said.
