The BBC Ghana has gathered that many expected schools will be made to re-open anytime soon, thereby giving a listening ear to President Akufo Addo when he delivered his 8th address to the nation.

However, their expectation was not met as they thought the president of Ghana was going to put in place some pragmatic measures and allow schools to operate.

Ever since the pandemic Coronavirus hits the country many daily routine activities have been brought to a halt, as the president laid down some protocols to observe by the citizens which include, a ban on the social gathering and the closedown of Schools.

Time and again there has been news in the media purporting that the Director-General of the GES, Prof Kwasi Opoku-Amankwa announced in a video that schools were scheduled to re-open in September.

Upon spotting the trending news in the Ghanaian media, the Ghana Education Service has entreated the public through a release to disregard the circulation and lay low for the signal of the outfit, as it has not taken a definite decision on that.

Below is the full statement

Disregard video on reopening of schools – Director-General
The Ghana Education Service (GES) says no definite decision has been taken on the reopening of basic and second cycle schools in the country.
The Director-General of the GES, Prof. Kwasi Opoku-Amankwa, told TheBBCghana.Com in Accra, that with the current situation where nobody was certain when the COVID-19 scourge would end, there was no way the GES could announce a date for the reopening of schools.
He said once the coronavirus situation was addressed and it was safe to go to school, the service would come out with an official date as to when schools would reopen.
Prof Opoku-Amankwa, therefore, asked the public to disregard any information and rumours that schools would reopen in September, this year.
According to the GES, the video was an old one picked from a press conference he held last year announcing the reopening of school for that year.
