Fact CHECK: “Mahama is no longer marketable; NDC needs a new product in 2024” – Leading Member of NDC makes a BOLD statement

President Akufo-Addo says Ghana’s economy under former President John Dramani Mahama was an unmitigated disaster.
President Akufo-Addo says Ghana’s economy under former President John Dramani Mahama was an unmitigated disaster.

A leading member of NDC says it will be dangerous to present John Dramani Mahama as the party’s flagbearer for the 2024 elections.

According to Stephen Ashitey Adjei, the umbrella fraternity needs a marketable candidate, not one that had been rejected in the 2016 and 2020 elections.

“We must re-examine our product for the electoral market and present a new product,” the Tema East Constituency member told Ghana News Agency.

According to him, the party is starkly divided under the leadership of the former president, saying “no party can win elections in Ghana with a divided front fighting against themselves.”

Meanwhile, the NDC Member of Parliament for Builsa South, Dr. Clement Abas Apaak, has refused to accept that the former president lost the 2020 election.

According to him, Mahama won the 2020 presidential elections but was denied his mandate by institutions whose leaderships were “handpicked by his competitor to do just that.”

As a result, he believed that the former president deserves a “free pass” to reclaim his stolen mandate.
