Astute radio personality Kwame Sefa Kayi has asked for an evaluation of the government’s flagship Free Senior High School program.

On his show, Sefa Kayi said that half a decade after the government launched the effort, it is time for a full evaluation.

He stated that the government and education partners must discuss the program’s finer points.

He urged the government to merely pay tuition and leave the rest to parents, especially those with children in boarding schools.

A National Petroleum Authority board member said that the government must reduce spending on issues like previous questions and uniforms.

“I don’t understand why we haven’t reviewed the Free SHS program after five years. How can someone who lives in East Legon and has a kid in Achimota not pay school fees? We may make tuition free but boarding houses charge.

“In my view, the government should pay for tuition and library fees, but boarding school should be paid for. How can the state acquire school supplies? Have you heard of them? Do we buy old questions?

The Akufo-Addo administration launched the Free SHS scheme in 2017. Some government communicators say the effort might be scrapped if the Electronic Levy is not approved.

As reported by Metro TV, if the E-levy is not approved by Parliament, the administration would have to terminate the scheme.

So, you must all embrace the E-levy and pay it so it benefits us all,” Okyere Baafi said constituents in a video shown on Good Morning Ghana.
