Deputy General Secretary of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Obiri Boahen has backed the Electoral Commission (EC)’s decision to increase the filing fee for presidential aspirants from ₵50,000 to ₵100,000.
To him, any party that cannot raise the said amount should go nowhere near Ghana’s presidency.
Commenting on the issues on Joy FM‘s Top Story, Mr. Boahen said, “If you cannot raise ¢100,000 please get out. Those who can mobilise will pay.”
The EC announced at a ‘Let The Citizen Know’ encounter on Monday, that filing fees for presidential aspirants of the 2020 election has been pegged at ₵100,000, which is a 100% increase of what they paid in 2016.
