Good News As EC Registers 4.4m Voters In The New Voters’ Registration Exercise

The Electoral Commission has so far registered 4,445,346 voters in the ongoing nationwide registration exercise.

According to the EC, Phase One captured 2,225,826 voters while Phase Two captured 2,219,520.

Out of the total number of registrants, 62.34 per cent used the Ghana card as a breeder document to prove their eligibility whilst 1.9 per cent used their passports, 35.72 per cent used guarantors and 0.2 per cent (8,158) had their eligibility challenged, according to the latest figures from the election management body.

Twenty per cent of the registrants captured so far are from the Greater Accra Region followed by Ashanti Region (18.4%), Eastern Region (9.5%), Central Region (9.4%), and North-East Region (1.7%).

Below is the regional breakdown of the total number of registrants whose eligibility has been challenged:

Volta – 1,060

Oti – 421

Eastern – 627

Ashanti – 929

Bono – 239

Ahafo – 365

Bono-East – 426

Savanna – 196

Northern – 753

North-East – 93

Upper Easter – 147

Upper West – 113

The 4,445,346 registered so far represents 30% of the EC’s 15 million target.
