Communications Minister, Ursula Owusu Ekuful has backed Minister for Special Development Initiatives, Mavis Hawa Koomson saying she would have shot some National Democratic Congress (NDC) sponsored thugs in 2012 if she had a gun.
This comes after Hawa Koomson, who also doubles as Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya East admitted to firing a gun in a voters’ registration centre in her constituency.
According to Hawa Koomson, it was an of self-defense as her security personnel had not yet reported for work.
Defending her political comrade, Ursula stressed she would have done same if she was in the shoes of Mavis Hawa Koomson, making reference to an attack in 2012 by some alleged NDC thugs.
She posted on twitter, “I stand with Hawa Koomson. If I had a gun on me in April 2012 when NDC sponsored thugs attacked me in Odododiodio, I would have shot them to protect myself. I didn’t and the rest is history. She had the right to protect herself if she felt threatened.”
Reports suggest Hawa Koomson have had her gun retrieved from her by the Police while some civil society groups continue to call for her sack.
