Member of Parliament for the Awutu Senya East Constituency on the ticket of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Honourable Mavis Hawa Koomson was later in the news that she has been arrested by police in the Central Region.
The said arrest was in relation to a misunderstanding at a voters’ registration centre in Kasoa, which resulted in the Special Development Initiatives Minister firing a gun.
Ghanaians said a lot about the said development but according to the Minister for Special Development Initiatives, she only did so with the intention of defending herself against a mob action by those she called “NDC youth“.
Political show pundits and seasoned security experts reacted to the incident calling for her resignation as Special Development Initiative as others went further to even call for her arrest.
Mrs Mavis Hawa Koomson speaking on Kumasi-based Wontumi FM has debunked rumours that she was arrested by the Central Police Division of the Ghana Police Service.
According to her, she was only invited by the Criminal Investigative Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service and not arrested.
“…I was invited by the CID of the Ghana Police Service and not arrested. I don’t just know why the media reported the incident that way…” – she said.
