One teacher one laptop project is one of the key components of the New GES ICT Policy. The initiative was one of the agendas for the National Executive Council Meeting with the Ghana Education Service Council in January 2021.
The laptop project is one of the measures by the government to promote digital literacy among teachers and students as the Ghana Education Service will organize in-serve training for teachers on digital literary.
And in a GES communiqué dated July 28, 2021, and signed by its Deputy Director General, Anthony Boateng to all regional directors of Education, the laptops are ready for distribution.
According to the GES communiqué, all regional directors are to liaise with the headmasters and Headmistresses of the various Senior High Schools in their Regions to provide them with a validated list and Staff ID numbers of teachers in their various schools to help fasten the distribution process.
But to the best Knowledge of Realest Blogger of GHbase.Com, the One teacher one laptop project is a misplaced priority.
According to Realest Blogger, if teachers in Ghana are paid well, they can afford to buy their preferred laptops which cometh with higher specifications comparably to the ones GES desires to distribute.
Taking to Facebook, he wrote, “If teachers in Ghana are being paid well, can’t they buy their own preferred laptops which cometh with higher specs?
“This country is forever a mess! I’ve been saying this, it’s sad being a Ghanaian and living in Ghana.
“Teachers in Ghana deserve better. The peanut they’ve been receiving as salary if you have a discussion with them is unfortunate.
“An average Ghanaian teacher can’t even afford to buy a MacBook or any expensive brand of phones. It’s all about Infinix and Tecno 💔💔😭😭
