Master Marhguy Tyrone Iras together with one other has been in the news recently for being denied admission at Achimota School as a result of his dreadlocks.
Despite an earlier directive by the Ghana Education Service (GES) to get them admitted, the School is insisting on its rules and regulations guiding students, among these being the wearing of short hair among Ghanaians.
But some have argued that schools in Ghana, in general, must look beyond appearances before admission.
It may be true in the case of Tyrone Iras as evidenced in his certificates.
Not only was he the overall best graduating student but also he was the Boys’ Prefect for Omega School in Accra, according to his father, who spoke on Akoma FM‘s GhanAkoma on Tuesday.
“During his JHS days he won the best student ever and was even elected as the boy’s prefect and graduated with aggregate 6 so why will the school deny my son admission just because of his hairstyle rather than consider his brain?”
