Prisoners To Be Register For their New Voters ID Card On July 18 – Electoral Commission Confirms

The Electoral Commission(EC) has issued a statement saying that, the outfit would be registering prisoners in the various prisons across the country on July 18, 2020.

Some Senior High Schools (SHS) students who could not register in the first exercise would also be given a second chance in what the commission describes as a mop-up registration exercise.

The EC has revealed that, it would be posting many officials from its outfit to the various prisons and SHSs in the country.

The Electoral Commission had earlier organized a-two-day registration exercise from July 10 to July 11 in the various Senior High Schools in the country.

It however disclosed in a new development that, phase four of the main New Voters card registration exercise will begin on July 19 which is a Sunday.

Meanwhile, the registration of the aged, nursing mothers, pregnant women, and people with disabilities still continue at the District level.

The Commission has so far registered a total of 7,279,237 applicants.

The Greater Accra Region has the highest number of registered applicants totalling 1,524,600, then the Ashanti Region coming in the second position with 1,319,498.

The newly created Ahafo  Region is said to have recorded the lowest number of registered applicants so far.
